Winemaker's Notes: Petit Verdot creates a "spice box" element with dense fruit, dark color, powerful flavors, and a cedary-pencil shavings nose. This tasty wine us occasionally, but rarely bottled anywhere as a stand-alone varietal, which we think is too bad for all those other winemakers out there! Since this grape ripens late, its availability can be limited due to October rains in El Dorado County!
Petit Verdot has characteristics that fall somewhere between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The fruit of this wine jumps out of the glass with heavy scents of jammy violets, velvety soft tannins and follows with a full mid-palette and a long seductive finish that you will not soon forget.
Petit Verdot is a varietal native to the Bordeaux region and is famous for adding color and backbone to blends. It is a component of our Triumphant blend and we think it makes a lovely wine all on its own!
