Visit us at either of our Crystal Basin locations during the month of March for a special tasting featuring our March Wine of the Month, Barbera.
As beloved as Barbera is in the Sierra Foothills of California, it is a bit of a second-class citizen in its native son of Northern Italy. It plays a second fiddle to the Nebbiolo grape, which is used to create the age-worthy red wines of Barolo and Barbaresco.
Barbera is what the Italian farmers drink! Often a bit thin when from Italy, Barbera has discovered its second home in Amador and El Dorado Counties and has developed a devoted, maybe even cult, following. With racy acidity and big berry flavors, Barbera is the consummate pasta wine and will arm wrestle any garlic you can throw at it. Made to fit both sunny afternoons on the patio and warm evenings by the fire, Barbera is a great introduction to the variety and complexity of Sierra Foothills grape choices!
